2015 Canadian National Wheelchair Rugby Team

2015 Canadian National Wheelchair Rugby Team

May 7, 2015, Victoria, BC - Team Red's Zak Madell (33) receives a pass during an exhibition game against Team Black during an intrasquad game at the National Wheelchair Rugby Team training camp at the University of Victoria.

WHY I CHOSE THIS PHOTO: The sport of wheelchair rugby was another new sport for me to photograph this year and the one thing that amazed me was the athleticism that these athletes - many either parapalegics, or physically disabled in some other way - displayed on the court. In this shot, Madell, who in addition to having lost the use of his legs, also has no fingertips, reaches out to catch a pass during the game. The frozen ball, his concentration on it and his hands ready for the catch, all make for an intriguing photo.
