June 2, 2014 Victoria, BC - The Victoria HarbourCats hold their initial practice ahead of their 2014 season at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria.

WHY I CHOSE THIS PHOTO: Sometimes as sports photographers we risk life and limb, and our camera gear, to get a good shot. I was looking for a slightly different shot of routine batting practice, so snuck to the side of the cage with wide angle lens mounted, held the camera down low and while positioned so that my body was protected by the side of the cage, extended the camera out in the open and did some "hail mary" shots as the pitch came in and batter swung. This shot, with the batter just about to hit the ball and the other players in the background was the result....one that I was very pleased with.
